Robert J. Berchick, Ph.D, ABPP has been a
practicing psychologist since 1975. He was an original staff member
of the clinics started by the renowned Aaron T. Beck, founder of
cognitive therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. In his work at
the clinics, Dr. Berchick had the opportunity to participate in early,
influential research on cognitive therapy and to supervise many
individuals who have themselves became leading researchers,
clinicians, and educators in this innovative form of psychotherapy.
From 1982 to 1990, Dr. Berchick served as Clinical Director of Beck's
University of Pennsylvania's
Center for Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Berchick then developed a vibrant
and multifaceted private practice: which among other professional activities,
included teaching, research, consulting, as well as specialized
clinical services. He integrated Gestalt, Behavioral Activation, Mindfulness and Dialectic
Behavioral approaches into his practice. Dr. Berchick is board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.
As of 2004 the scope of
Dr. Berchick's professional practice has been limited.
